About Us
We are Papagayo Fishing Charters, a tour agency focused on boat, yacht and catamaran rentals for different activities such as deep sea fishing, inshore fishing, fishing & beach BBQ, surfing, snorkeling, land tours, among other activities.
We are located in Flamingo and in the Gulf of Papagayo, Guanacaste (half an hour from the Daniel Oduber – Liberia International Airport) which is one of the best fishing and tourist activities areas in the country.
We come from a family that has been dedicated to sport fishing all our lives, so both the captains and the sailors have enough experience to make you enjoy the tour in the best possible way in addition to knowing where to find the places where you most likely would find fish.
Our service and Boats
We have a large number of boats to choose from for fishing in guanacaste Costa Rica, that vary according to price, size, model and general amenities such as air conditioning, a private cabin, among others. Rent process
The process of renting a boat for a tour or fishing day is very simple, it is only 3 steps:
- Choose the boat that you like the most.
- Contact us to check availability and clear up any doubts.
- Finally, we need a deposit to save the boat for the required date of the tour.
Our service has a refund policy of 100% of the cost of the trip if it is canceled 3 days in advance the tour.

Inshore fishing tours are perfect for people who want to have a taste of the best of a sportfishing tour without having to spend so much travel time to reach a better fishing area.
When you go as a family or with small children and want to have a good time and a good day of fishing, an excellent option are the “inshore fishing tours” because they are very exciting and entertaining but somewhat calmer and usually with less waves.
Offshore Fishing
The purpose of a fishing trip is to have a good time and of course, to be lucky and have a good day of fishing. To have a better chance of catching larger and more exotic fish, we have to go a little further from the coast and go to deeper waters where they live.

The Fishing & Beach BBQ Tour at Papagayo is an excellent option when you are with kids or family because it allows you to enjoy the adrenaline experience of inshore fishing, the beauty of snorkeling at some crystal clear waters and finally a delicious BBQ of what you just caught at a paradise beach.

These tours are great for novice and experienced anglers, as well as small or large groups. You can customize the tour as you like, check for availability!
where do we pick-up by boat?
We can pick you up by the tour boat at 7:30 am at most beaches and hotels in Flamingo and the Gulf of Papagayo. On some occasions, there may be a charge for this pick-up by boat depending on the distance between the tour boat and the beach where we will pick you up.
If you are in a hotel a bit far from the coast or beach, we can coordinate a transportation by a shuttle bus taxi to the beach where we will pick you up by boat.
Among the beaches where we pick-up by boat are: Flamingo, Conchal, Potrero, Matapalo, Ocotal, El Coco, Hermosa, Panama, Arenillas, Manzanillo, etc.
Among the hotels where we pick-up by boat are: Westin Conchal, W Costa Rica, Brasilito, Flamingo Marina, Riu Guanacaste, Riu Palace, Condovac, Occidental Papagayo, El Mangroove, Secrets Papagayo, Planet Hollywood, Andaz Resort, Four Seasons, etc.

Fishing Seasons - Papagayo & Flamingo
There is a wide variety of fish in Papagayo and Flamingo areas among which are: mahi mahi, rooster, sailfish, marlin, snapper, tuna, mackerel, cubera, amberjack, among other species. That is what we aim for on the fishing in guanacaste costa rica tours.
Normally it is possible to capture them throughout the year but there are seasons where there is more or less probability of catching them.

Yes, you can travel with small children or babies.
It is advisable to carry motion sickness pills just in case.
The tip is not included in the amount of the charter.
The year can be divided into 3 main seasons:
- Dry season: from December to April it is dry. There is more tourism in coastal areas because the weather is special for outdoor activities and enjoying the beautiful beaches that Costa Rica has to offer.
- High season: December and New Year. Normally there are more tourists and the prices of the tourist areas increase in the same way.
- Rainy season: from May to November it is rainy. This is characterized by being sunny early and rainy in the afternoon and by being filled with green throughout the country. There is more tourism in wetlands because the climate is special for hiking and enjoying the beautiful tropical forests, flora, and fauna that Costa Rica has to offer.

Yes, you can cancel at no additional cost. This is a summary of our cancellation policy:
- We have a “No arrival at CR, no paying” policy at any time.
- 100% refund of the cost: if you cancel 3 days in advance the tour.
If you don’t buy the fishing license, the officials can stop the tour and send all of us back to the beach.
The fishing license is not always necessary but we recommend that you buy it at least one day before the tour. It all depends on whether or not officers are around and how lucky you are that day.
It is not our responsibility if the officials stop and cancel the tour due to the lack of fishing licenses of the passengers.
Captains and sailors have active fishing licenses.

Yes, it is necessary that you carry a document that identifies you.
You do not need to bring your original passport to the tour, a copy or photo of your passport on your cellphone works.
Yes, we provide all the necessary fishing equipment for the tour.
If you want to bring your own fishing equipment, you can do it without a problem.
If there is heavy rain on the day of the tour, the tour is maintained as it does not make the trip unsafe for everyone on board.
In this little tropical paradise, people are called Ticos, they use the “pura vida” for everything (hello, bye bye, thank you, everything is fine, etc.) and they are very friendly. This reason and the great diversity of flora, fauna, and natural resources make Costa Rica a place so acclaimed by tourists.
In 1948 Costa Rica abolished the army to dedicate these resources to education and the country’s health system with the phrase “I don’t want an army of soldiers but of educators.” This contributes to Costa Rica being a very calm and friendly place with visitors.
Having said this, you can easily walk and travel around the country without any problems. Just take the same precautions you would in any other country.
Yes, changes can be made to the reservation at no additional cost.
Changes to the reservation are subject to availability.
In case of unsafe conditions due to bad weather (tropical storm) on the day of the tour, we may cancel the tour:
- If you have availability, the tour can be postponed to another day when conditions are safe for all on board.
- If you do not have availability, a 100% refund of the tour is made.
