Offshore Fishing in Guanacaste

Home » Offshore Fishing Trips

We classify fishing in Costa Rica in two ways, inshore and offshore fishing. The difference lies in the distance of the fishing area from the coast and therefore the time it takes to reach each of these areas. It should be noted that some fish are found in a higher percentage in each of these areas, this is the reason why many people prefer to go fishing offshore when looking for larger or exotic fish.

There is something that must be clear, sport fishing depends on different factors: the season, the experience of the crew, the fishing equipment used, the weather, and mainly luck. Exotic fish such as marlin or sailfish can be found anywhere at any time, but clearly, if we are fishing for longer in an area where they inhabit, we are going to have a greater chance of catching one of these fish.

How far do you travel to get to the fishing area?

What is traveled to reach the fishing area is approximately the following:

  • Inshore – approximately 6 miles from the coast.
  • Offshore – approximately 25 miles from the coast.

Why and for whom are offshore fishing tours ideal?

The purpose of a fishing trip is to have a good time and of course, to be lucky and have a good day of fishing. To have a better chance of catching larger and more exotic fish such as marlin or sails, we have to go a little further from the coast and go to deeper waters where they live.

Offshore fishing tours are perfect for people who want to live a total adrenaline experience while going in search of bigger and more exotic fish that are mostly found in these areas.

Our fishing days are as follows: 4-6-8 hours. Any of these times is perfect for inshore fishing. However, what is recommended for offshore fishing are 6-8 hour tours due to the time it takes to travel from the coast to the offshore fishing spots.
